Things to do at Caribou Lake

Experience the clearest lake in Minnesota. Caribou Lake with a clarity of 40 feet and depth of 160 feet is well known to divers as the lake to explore. One of the few lakes in Minnesota where Lake Trout thrive, Large and Small Mouth Bass can be caught off your dock, and huge Northern pike hide in the depths. Fishing is popular year round.

Bring your bikes and hop on the Mesaba paved bike trial, located a 15 minute drive from the cabin to the trail head, this paved trail will take you all the way to Ely, Minnesota.

Located in the Chippewa National Forest hike, hunt, and explore. In the 7 mile radius of Buckhorn are over 600 lakes to explore and trails leading to them all. The area is known for it’s grouse hunting, as it hosts the annual Grouse unlimited conference every year in early October.

In the winter ski the many cross county trails in the area, snowshoe on our trails, bring sled for the kids to slide down our many hills, and hope on the snowmobile trail the crosses our driveway.

Most important is the true feeling of wilderness you will get, from your drive up scenic byway #38, to your turn onto Smith Lake Road and the big pines leading down the driveway to your cabin. This is the place for those of you wanting to experience northern Minnesota at it’s finest.
